Bauble Fun
Hallelujah! I finally have time in my schedule to do some sewing!
I was invited by the National Quilt Museum to donate a quilt to its raffle showcasing the instructors for QuiltWeek Paducah. Yes, I will be teaching and judging at the Paducah show in April!
I didn’t have time to start a quilt from scratch, so I dug through my pile of UFOs, and found this table runner top I had made as a sample for the Corner Pop III tool. I had sewn just a section of the Bauble pattern to create this table runner. The top was done, so I only needed to quilt and bind it. Luckily, I still had enough of the black fabric for the backing and binding.
For a project this small, I usually spray baste the three layers. Since it was so long, I’ll also pin-baste the layers for stability.
I start quilting by stitching-in-the-ditch with black thread. Yikes! Black thread on black fabric. I did such a good job, I kept losing track of where I was going and where I had been on the quilt. So I started taping off each section as I went. Painter’s tape to the rescue!
Now to quilt the triangles. I’ll definitely make thread changes to match each colored section.
I’m not a fancy quilter. Straight line and echo quilting are my go-to’s. I start by drawing a chalk line from point of the triangle to 1/4″ inch away at the other end. As I sew, I turn and wrap the stitches around and around to echo the shape of the triangle.
There are lots of stops and starts, but I like the way it looks.
When the quilting is done, I square up the quilt before adding the binding.
Yikes! Again, black thread on black fabric for the binding. I definitely need my Ott-Lite with the magnifier to hand sew the back of the binding.
Then, silly me, I was so excited to ship the quilt off to the National Quilt Museum, I forgot to take a picture of the finished product before it left.
If you’re in Paducah for the quilt show April 22 to 25, be sure to stop by the National Quilt Museum and check out all the raffle quilts and offerings from the show’s instructors. You’ll see Bauble and my other submission, Diamond Sparkle. And if you see me somewhere at the show, please stop me and say “Hi!”
I’m working on another project now, and will post about it soon. TTFN.
