Rainbow Drops Pattern
I have a new pattern release this week – introducing Rainbow Drops! This pattern was inspired by my friend, Cindy Lohbeck of Dyehard’s Studios. Cindy dyes fabric, and in this case, quilting cotton. She recently developed Charm Packs of her fabric using stenciled pieces and sorta solid 5-inch squares. Aren’t these just luscious! I love the gradation of colors.
Cindy asked me if I had a quilt pattern using charm packs, and I said, “No, but I can design one!”
I love the rich colors and the stenciled designs. Although I didn’t want to make a typical block-block-block pattern, I wanted to feature the stenciled squares. I decided to cut up the solidish squares and mix the up. Four-patches are quick and easy, so I started there.
Then I added a frame to the four-patches to make the blocks 5 inches square. See the tiny four-patches when I spun the seams on the back?
Just to mix things up, I put a border on single squares too.
Now let’s play and lay out the three different kinds of blocks.
Here’s version Number 1:
Then I made another sample, adding a couple of squares to change it up a bit:
I couldn’t decide which layout I liked better: light or dark background, square or rectangular? So I included both in the pattern.
The Rainbow Drops pattern is available in my shop now. It’s a great way to use up the charm packs you have in your stash!
Until next time,
